The Wanderers Empty
PostSubject: The Wanderers   The Wanderers I_icon_minitimeSun Sep 18, 2011 3:59 pm

In the land of Terato, the Kingdom is under constant threat from evil forces. Slavers, pirates, demons, shape-shifters, and thugs of all backgrounds permeate life on an everyday basis for the citizens of this bleak land. The only real protection anyone has from the vile fiends are the Wanderers: sorcerers, mages, wizards, witches, all different names for these beings. The few who take up the burden of practicing magic are those who are entrusted with the safety of Terato, and they constantly travel the land, setting whatever goes wrong right again. The wanderers have their hands full, so when a new evil begins to rise, can even the Wanderers handle it?

Each wanderer carries a staff, a symbol of their status, as well as an essential component in casting. They dress in robes of varying colors and generally keep their heads hooded in public. They can come from a variety of races: humans, elves, nymphs, etc (whatever you can think of is fair game). The Wanderers can control the elements, distort time, bolster their physical abilities, create objects out of thin air, etc. They can only perform magic consistent with their level of mana. All beings have mana, but most do not learn to access it. The Wanderers have, and their ability to call upon it grows with training and practice; the older more experienced Wanderers have the ability to cast greater magic than newer ones. Wanderers perpetually travel Terato, patrolling the land and never staying in one place for more than a couple of days.

Terato is a coastal country, the sea on the east of the country where most people find work as merchants or sea-farerers, along with a rather large pirate community. It also boasts cities along it. To the north is hilly and mountainous terrain, where the scholars and government choose to make their homes. There are also giants and trolls, as well as the occasional evil spirit, though the reside farther, past Terato's borders. The East and South East are forested, where some people gather in villages, along with woodland creatures, including lycans. The south is mostly plains, and hosts some towns, but it's mostly agriculture and cattle-raising. Goblins often raid along the plains and flee further south once done. Dragons are also known to appear in different places, though the whereabouts of their nests are unknown. The rivers are also home to all manner of water creatures and beings, making some areas dangerous to seek water from.

Terato is not terribly advanced scientifically, but they often trade more magical aspects of their culture for scientific advances from other lands, including medicine and guns. Cyborgs are sometimes seen within the borders, though not often. Terato has a magic-based economy, which consists of trinkets that have magic within them. No one aside from a Wanderer can use magic, but they can own trinkets and things imbued with magic.

(I will probably update this post with more information on Terato and everything else at some point.)

Rules

1. No godmodding, one liners, ect.
2. Cursing is allowed.
3. Questions are meant to be asked, so ask if you have one.
4. Keep blood and gore to a minimum
5. Sexual actions are ok, so long as they aren't detailed.
6. Try to post around three sentences per post at least.
7. One Wanderer per RP'er (unless we need more).
8. Wanderers will not carry any other weapon but their staff.
9. I can add/modify rules.
10. Write, "Terato is ours, we keep it safe, protect it from those who would do it harm. We are the Wanderers." in your first post.

"Terato is ours, we keep it safe, protect it from those who would do it harm. We are VR...er, uh, I mean the Wanderers."

Looks really interesting actually, but I'd like to ask, what exactly would a person be capable of at their respective levels and is there a level cap to the power of these spells? I mean, earth shattering spells, while cool, is really overdoing it *cough* Fainal Fantasy 13 *cough*.

That is a good question, and unfortunately I have not had much time to work on this so right now I don't have a set answer. It will be answered at some point though.

Edit: I'm going to list accepted characters here.

Username: manysidestome
Name: Ze
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Race: Angel
Appearance: Ze is toned, but it is unapparent under his white clothes and big brown robe. He has long brown hair and blue eyes. He also has big white wings coming out of his back which are concealed under the robe. He also has an extra finger on each hand, and an extra toe on each foot. Not that you could tell, with his gloves and boots concealing them for the most part. His staff is made of oak.
Personality: Ze is a quiet, yet good-natured person. He likes to be in the forests, and sometimes takes a half hour to enjoy the scenery before he'll continue his patrol.
History: Ze was orphaned at a young age, and a wanderer found in him in the forests of Terato. He could find no one to take the young boy, so the Wanderer became his mentor. He was already elderly, and wouldn't be able to continue his duties for much longer, so Ze was trained for years under this man, until everything he knew had either been taught or recorded on scrolls, and Ze parted with him at age fourteen, when his mentor was no longer able to travel. Since then Ze has upheld his duties as a Wanderer, learning from his late mentor's scrolls and exploring magic on his own.
Other:

Username: manysidestome
Name: Letam Namow
Age: 35
Gender: Female
Race: Cyborg-human/Pirate
Appearance: Wearing traditional pirate garb, Letam is quite a sight. A beautiful, ruthless Pirate Lord, she would be intimidating enough for most people. But Letam is also part robot. The right side of her body is all robotic, including her face. Her right eye glows yellow, her left eye is a deep green. Her hair, what's left of it, is brown, wavy and bouncy, and goes down past her shoulders. Her right arm and leg are super-humanly strong, being made of metal. She's decked out in rings, bracelets and a necklace, and has a really cool pirate hat.
Personality: Letam is a scary person. At one moment she can seem sweet and kind, another she can be inspiring and courageous, and then turn around and be a vengeful banshee. She likes interesting people and likes to arrange meetings with people who might be able to help her maintain control.
History: Letam was born into Pirate nobility, her father was a Lord in a distant country, where she grew up with a community of vicious and bloodthirsty vandals. Of course, being a young girl in the midst of a bunch of criminals, she quickly had to grow up and learn to defend herself, and importantly, outsmart others. She had to nearly kill most of the crew of her father's ship when she was just 12 before they would leave her alone, though the occasional newbie or stranger would still try. For years she was a regular on her father's ship, participating in raids and thefts on whomever happened to have something valuable. When she turned 19 her father was killed by a mutiny, one of many, and she was cast off. Undeterred by this, Letam built herself up a crew and acquired a ship, using the skills she learned from her father to become a terror of the seas. It was during a raid that she suffered an accident, a canon-ball hit her, barely on her side, but the force crushed most of her right side. The doctors in the nearby harbor were able to save her life, by turning her into something more. Her internal organs had to be replaced with metal, and so did her skin and bones. She doesn't understand the technical details about how it keeps her alive, but she knows how it works basically, and can maintain her robotic body. She decided to travel to the magical country of Terato, and quickly set herself up there as a Pirate Lord like her father, The people had never heard of her before, or a metal demon, but she introduced them to both.

"Terato is ours, we keep it safe, protect it from those who would do it harm. We are the Wanderers."

Username: Casey Jewels

Name: Kroen

Age: 33, but looks to be a young teen

Gender: Male

Race: Shape-shifter

Appearance: The Wanderers PLpjGjU
http://niaro.deviantart.com/art/PORTAL-ON-258684912
He is a shape-shifter, but his normal shape is human-like. He has a wiry frame, and stands at 5’, looking very much like a young teen. His eyes are a bright orange, and his hair is brown in color, and hangs loose, falling down to his waist. His ears hang down low, like a rabbit’s, the fur on them just a little lighter in color than his eyes. He also has a tail, which is covered in fur that matches his hair color, and is about two-thirds the length of his body. His skin is a light tan.

He wears a tight-fitting white suit of sorts, with a few yellow markings on it, but this suit is hidden most of the time by the dark blue robe he wears over it. He has a staff made from cypress. (In other words, he appears to be a Wanderer.) His boots are a dark brown in color, and the bottoms of them are a much lighter leather material, similar to Native American moccasins. Around his neck is a teal collar, which is always present, no matter what he shifts into. Also, he has two Indian katars, one attached to each side of his yellow belt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katara_(dagger)

Personality: Kroen is meek, but also seems to spend much of his time playing tricks on others. He loves a good laugh, but never pushes the line between what a funny and what is not. Underneath his smiles and his pranks, he is rather quiet, and surprisingly caring. However, he will run when trouble comes along; he is very much a coward. Also, he can never stay serious for long.

History: Kroen’s life was pretty normal—he was born, raised in his parents’ ways, rebelled, and then was on his own before he knew it. He returned home one summer to find his mother dead, though he couldn’t fault the person that had murdered her. She had made many enemies, after all, and even he wasn’t that fond of her. There was no trace as to what happened to his father, but Kroen simply pushed the man from his mind.

In his late twenties, Kroen ran into a spot of trouble, and, with no one to escape or bluff his way out of it, he was given a blue collar and became a slave.

Since then, he has been roaming the land, having a good time while searching for fellow Wanderers.

"Terato is ours, we keep it safe, protect it from those who would do it harm. We are the Wanderers."

Username: TokoToTheEnd
Name: Mayra Glaslow
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Race: Human with a tiny bit of satyr
Appearance: Mayra
Personality: Mayra is a good natured person unless you mean her harm, have cheated her or done something to get on her bad side. She can be very greedy and is attracted by money more than anything. Mayra has an odd sense of humor as well, sometimes enjoying the misfourtune of others. Although she doesn't like to, Mayra will kill and hurt to protect herself. She has a low trust for people, but doesn't always let them know.
History: Mayra lived near a port town as a child. Her family sold fish that came from one of the ships in the port town and at a young age Mayra would go there and bring back the fish for her family. Usually one of her cousins would tag along and keep her safe and make sure that no one got cheated. For a good amount of years, Mayra did this. She dreamed of manning her own ship someday, falling in love with stories about the sea. She had a dislike for pirates though, feeling as though they were cruel people who only wanted to profit. Mayra eventually had her ideas about pirates put to the test.

At the age of 14 she joined a ship's crew as an assisstant to the ship's doctor, one of the few jobs a young girl like herself could get. While they were sailing one day, their ship was attacked by pirates. Mayra was kidnapped and almost killed along with a few others off the ship, but the captian decided to allow them to live as long as they served. Mayra spent hard years on the pirate ship, cooking and cleaning. She started to hate the pirate crew she served.

Eventually Mayra was sold onto a slaver's ship which was then attacked by a different group of pirates. They were to set the slaves on the ship to be free. Mayra, though was kept by the new pirates, as one of them wanted her. Mayra was afraid, but the man was kind of her, something she did not expect from pirates. She grew to like the new pirate family she had gained over the years. But at last this too ended brutally. A novice Wanderer, thinking this ship was another pirate ship that had recently attacked a port, destoried the ship with only a few surviving. Mayra was one of them and her hatred of pirates changed to one of Wanderers. Now she is captian of her own crew, still looking out for the bastard who destoried her life.

Username: TokoToTheEnd
Name: Zwerver
Age: 147, but 21 in "human age"
Gender: Female
Race: River nymph
Appearance: Zwerver
Personality: Zwerver can seem like a simple girl. She is very kind and sweet, loving to laugh and have fun. She is very curious as well and can seem less than bright at times. However Zwerver is fiercely protective of people and does not like to see unnecessary violence or crimes being down against people. She is very dedicated to helping others.
History: Zwerver grew up in a small river near a town. She would watch as her fellow nymphs would tease and play with the village folk and sometimes would participate in the fun as well. Some of the nymphs would go with the village folk and return a day later; Some ended up pregnant. Zwerver enjoyed her life but she did not stray far from her home for a long time. Eventually she decided to see what the world was like. She wanted to meet other people and experience a new life. So she left her small river. Eventually she met a Wanderer and grew to like the idea. But the Wanderer she met was gone before she could ask too many questions. She is looking for a Wanderer to learn from.

Okay...I'm gonna reserve a spot, and go for broke on the weekend to make my character sheets.

"Terato is ours, we keep it safe, protect it from those who would do it harm. We are the Wanderers."

I have read the rules, as shown by the quote above, but I want you ta just tell me something, just ta set it straight that I can't do it...because I really wanna do it...!

I can NOT have some sort of Spell Casting Magic Gun, right? (Actually, I would like to know the position on using guns as weapons overall for this RP. Do guns exist in Terato? If so, are they of the less advanced Civil War or Wild Wild West era? If not...well, do they exist in lands outside of Terato?)

I'm with Casey on the school semester thing, and before I can finish my characters, I really need some answers about the guns thing...but then again, you just built a cyborg-pirate lordress, if that's a word, so I'm gonna guess that my characters will be okay.

Just gimme a couple days tops ta finish things up please!

Okay, I said two days tops and it's been longer than that, but I felt that I should at least post the 2 out of 3 characters that I did finish in 2 days...I think.

Username: Velox

Name: Moriyamako

Age: 108 (Young for her Race. Appears to be 13.)

Gender: Female

Race: Oni (Forest/Mountain)

Appearance: Moriyamako

Personality: Moriyamako is very much still a child. She has a very simple outlook on life and is very curious. When she’s hungry she eats, when she’s tired she sleeps. She has a mischevious nature like many of her race do, and she loves to play and challenge her enormous strength. Moriyamako is good natured at heart, even though she doesn’t quite always understand the ways of civilization.

History: Moriyamako was born in the great forest of Eastern Terato. The Forest Oni live deep in the heart of the forest and not many of them leave as the Oni live simple lives, eating and playing to their hearts content until they grow tired and sleep. Moriyamako lived out such a life: eating juicy forest apples and meaty game; playing tag and sparring with her friends; staying up as late as she could, gazing at the starts and hunting ghosts, until she could not keep her eyes open any longer. She sometimes slept for 2 or 3 day straight, and when she woke up she would start her fun and happy life all over again.

Her forest days of pleasure would not last, as Moriyamako was not just the offspring of a Forest Oni like her friends, but of a Mountain Oni as well. Mountain Oni and Forest Oni are similar in many ways and have few differences, but Mountain Oni are naturally the strongest out of all Oni, and therefore Moriyamako was much stronger than all of her friends. At first she was admired for her enormous strength and became something of a leader among the Oni children, but Moriyamako had no desire to be the leader type, in fact she was too clueless and somewhat of an airhead to take on a leadership role. She honestly didn’t care too much and just wanted to have fun with her friends. Still Moriyamako tried her best, and while things were okay in the beginning, the Oni soon started to dislike her. Moriyamako always wanted to challenge herself and so her and the other Oni started picking fights with a whole bunch of forest creatures. The other Oni children weren’t as strong as Moriyamako and some of them started to get hurt because they couldn’t keep up with her challenges. Not only did they pick a new leader, but all of her friends started ignoring her and treating her coldly when she tried to apologize. Discouraged, Moriyamako decided that she would do what her parents had done a long time ago; she ventured off beyond the Eastern Forest and decided to travel Terato in search of fun adventure and new friends.

Other: Moriyamako does not have many personal belongings, but she does carry with her a very large kanabo.

Username: Velox

Name: Amina Foe

Age: 213 (Appears to be in her mid 20s.)

Gender: Female

Race: Succubus

Appearance: Amina Foe

Personality: Amina is a creature of pleasure. She loves all sorts of fine luxuries and the money it takes to buy it all. Amina is very vain about her “beautiful, youthful body” and loves using her sex appeal to obtain what she wants.

History: Amina comes from a far out country southwest of Terato. All her life Amina has been living off desires of lust and greed, which has led the succubus a very long, very happy life. Anyone or anything she desired she obtained no matter what the cost, and she soon found joy in stealing things and became somewhat of a notorious bandit and earned a bounty on her head.

The night when she was attacked by a group of bounty hunters was the first time she learned of the bounty system. Luckily for her she was only wanted alive and she managed to persuade the hunters for a night of fun before they took her to jail. It was their last night, but they died happily. The morning after, Amina thought that bounty hunting would not only be easy money, but fun too. After learning how the system worked by attempting to turn herself in for the reward, she later escaped jail, gathered up some supplies and weapons, and started traveling throughout the land as not only a bandit, but a formidable bounty hunter as well. Most recently her journey of pleasure has taken her to Terato.

Other: Besides her succubus abilities of seduction, Amina’s weapons are two revolvers, a whip, and an ancient artillery-like firearm imbued with magic power.

--- --- ---

Sorry, I've had some obligations and other stuff, so it's gonna take a little longer to finish my Wanderer character. I'm almost done though, so you can start whenever you want to.

Looking deeper, Wyrrow is observant, intelligent, and more than capable of taking care of himself. He has learned the hard way that with great power comes great responsibility, and of the dangers that great power can lead to if one is not responsible.
History: In the early years of his life, Wyrrow was raised by monks in a great Monastery high up in the mountains of Northern Terato. The monks did their best to teach him how to forge his body to make it harder than steel, to open his mind to the mysteries of the universe, and to set his spirit down the path of enlightment. While The Way is a difficult one for all, the monks witnessed the incredible potential in Wyrrow, as the young boy managed to levitate during meditation, destroy large boulders with his bare hands, and sensed the Abbot’s return from the Sacred Hot Springs before he had reached the Monastery gate. Shortly taking notice of Wyrrow’s abilities, the Abbot contacted Gandall, a powerful Wanderer and old friend, to judge the boy’s potential for himself.
Gandall arrived at the Monastery with his Wanderer apprentice Xelos three days later. The old Wanderer found that Wyrrow did have an affinity for using Mana, and would allow the boy to travel with him and Xelos in order to become a Wanderer. Even though it was hard to say goodbye, Wyrrow wanted to go with Gandall and Xelos and find his destiny. The three traveled across Terato together for years, helping people and learning all sorts of new things. Even though Wyrrow and Xelos didn’t get a long in the beginning, they learned to trust each other and grew stronger together. They became best friends.
One night, the three Wanderers were staying at an inn up in a port town. The town was being plagued by a band of vicious pirates, and the trio planned to head out to confront the pirates first thing in the morning. As they slept however, the pirates attacked the port and as soon as the sound of massive cannon fire filled the air, destruction followed in an instant, and nearly all the port had gone up in smoke and flames. The Wanderers did their best to extinguish the flames and help the survivors, but so many had died, and the magic power to revive the dead was way beyond the mortal level. The death of the townspeople, the innocent citizens who had took them in and hoped for salvation, hurt Xelos the most out of the group. He had seen his share of suffering in the world through his travels, but this was too much. He was consumed by vengeance, and ignoring his companions’ pleas, he hunted the pirate ship down and obliterated it…only, it was the wrong ship. Gandall’s original plan to stop the pirates involved bringing in the help of an old friend, an old pirate with a personal sense of honor and justice that was revered throughout the sea. Blinded by rage, Xelos had become no better than the pirates who attacked the village, he had killed the innocent.

While deeply regretful, and filled with unfamiliar solemnity, Xelos had changed. However, this change was not for the better, as his descent down the dark path had already begun. Months later, during his early morning meditation, Gandall was suddenly attacked by pirates, the ones who bombarded the port. Despite being unclear of their reasons why, the Elder Wanderer was not one to be taken by surprise, nor be dispatched of so easily. Countering their weapons and gathering his mana, fully prepared to show the fools the consequences of attacking a Wanderer, he was suddenly struck down from behind. In his final moments he turned as he fell, and saw none other than his apprentice Xelos’ betrayal. While successful, the pirates’ diversion had been rather noisy and woke up the sleeping Wyrrow, who had been sleeping in as he usually did. The death of his master by his best friend shook Wyrrow to the core. When Wyrrow demanded to know how Xelos could even do such a thing, he replied with a smirk, and told the pirates that he would double their pay if they killed Wyrrow too. Outraged, Wyrrow snapped into a state not unlike his former friend once had, and with uncontrollable mana flowing through his body, he brutally beat any of the pirates who got in his way of vengeance with his bare hands. As long as they knew each other, Wyrrow could never quite catch up to Xelos in power, and now was no different. Xelos calmly teleported away, dodging all of Wyrrow’s ferocious but uncontrolled attacks. The pirates, afraid that they could die at any moment, began to run away or beg that Xelos save them. Disgusted, Xelos unleashed a blaze of fire, and the agonizing flames engulfed all the pirates, killing them slowly. Then, turning back to Wyrrow, he berated him and kicked their dead master, claiming that he had always been holding them back. The rage in Wyrrow surged violently, and an enormous blast of power managed to catch Xelos by surprise, obliterating one of his arms. No longer toying with him, Xelos retaliated with the same method he used to kill his master. Wyrrow countered with another blast, and the clashing forces caused a huge explosion, that knocked Wyrrow unconscious. By the time he awakened, Xelos was gone without a trace.

Years have passed since that day, and Wyrrow continues to travel the land of Terato, performing his duties as a Wanderer, and searching for the monster who was once like a brother to him.

Other: Much of Wyrrow’s clumsiness comes from his condition of narcolepsy. He also tends to forget things easily, though that may or may not be true.

{Got'im!!! Sorry it took so long, I suddenly got inspired to make the background-history-story more elaborate and connect Toko's character...which I actually hope is okay, I probably should've asked her first. I know earlier there were talks of a specific antagonist, and I set up that possibility, but I could change things if there are problems?}
